For any of you that don’t understand this SIMPLE concept, I’ve included two interesting sources.
To be honest, I don’t understand them and I’m the first to ask for help. From what I can figure out the debate deals with quantum mechanics, the universe and if we are living in a giant computer simulation.
Aside from that, it’s a simple theory; laugh…laugh.

Ok let’s start with the basics. If the charge of a sub-particle is changed from a positive charge to a negative charge, there was a change of state. In computer terms, there are two binary conditions, State A and State B. The change in state is very similar to a single bit for a computer. In computer talk, it changes from a 1 to a 0.

When the minutia of the universe is investigated (quantum mechanics) just about everything can change from one ‘state’ to another. Therefore, they can change from a 1 to a 0. If you’re comfortable with this explanation then it’s a simple leap to compare quantum mechanics to computer operations. Then it is another minor step to conclude that the Universe is nothing but a giant computer. If so, then we are living in a giant computer simulation.

Ok, now that we’ve solved quantum mechanics and the giant simulation we call home, how can this relate to a good Sci-Fi story? I’m not sure I can answer that. As I sit here contemplating my little part of the simulation, the only stories I can come up with are God related and some great power writing the program. So to keep it in the realm of Sci-Fi and not trying to figure out what computer language God is using, I’m forced to keep it simple.

In my short stories, “Progeny” and “Circle is closed.” I needed to come up with a new form of Faster than Light Travel so I tweaked the laws of quantum mechanics a little. We all know that it takes an infinite amount of energy to reach FTL and I didn’t particularly want to irritate Albert so I used the power of the Universe. In my theory, I change the dimensions between molecules for a tiny fraction of time. We all know the forces released when an atom is split is E=MC^2 but what about the forces that force the atom together. At the molecular level, the forces are defined, but hey I’m a SCIFi author. I’m proposing that if a molecular structure is forced closer then there must giant forces in the Universe trying to correct the imbalance. From that, I get the energy for FTL. A simple example is squeezing an apply seed between your fingers. A little force down translates to a fast-moving ‘seed projectile’. Forgetting my Nobel Prize for the moment, my story uses those forces from the Universe, which are trying to correct the imbalance to propel a ship from one sector of space to another instantaneously. Sort of a mix of Worm Holes, Entanglement and imagination.

Well not exactly perfect but it sounds a lot better in context; trust me.
