Here comes the next round of the space race, with China?

If any of you haven’t noticed, I don’t think we have to worry about Russia causing problems in space, nor do we have to be concerned with Europe. However, be forewarned, within 10 years China will be giving us fits.

This article does a good job of covering their current activities and the fact they are building a rocket that will blast a bigger hole in the sky then our Saturn 5. I’m sure anything they do will be nationalistic and with the intention of controlling something. This is very similar to their plan of building islands off their coast to extend their boundaries and control the shipping in the area.

This is a precursor to my story Virus where China was the first to put a Helium-3 mining facility on the moon and the rest of the world catches up only after a disaster almost wipes out the colony. My book is fiction but China going to moon is anything but altruistic. Remember the old adage ‘possession is 9/10 of the law’.

We aren’t spending pocket change on space and Europe won’t take on any major programs until they figure out their budget mess. Russia is pretty much out of the picture and they are in a decline, so all that is left is China. If we don’t wake up and start investing in space, we’ll be sitting in the same position we were with Sputnik. We won’t have to worry about a dog in space it will be a dragon.

About Ray Jay P

I’m a retired Aeronautical Engineer who is trying to bring a different style to science fiction writing. I’ve always loved science fiction and I’m trying to write with deeper characters and create stories and situations that a reader can relate to. The be honest I love a hero that has amazing weapons, takes on hundreds of aliens and can survive anything, but I also want to read a situation and be able to relate to it. An extrapolation of what might really happen with a little less stretch in my imagination. I’ve been fortunate and I flew in the US Air Force for 10 years, during which time I flew C-130’s and visited 27 countries, then I flew T-38”s and trained the best pilots in the world, as well as the first female US Air Force pilots. I then was fortunate to spend 28 years in a major aerospace firm and worked on some of the best programs in the world including the F-23, F-35, B-2, Global Hawk and many I can’t tell you about…. I hope I can bring my real life experiences into my writing so you can appreciate my work.
