C-130 Bullet Holes
C-130 Low-Level Flight Appalachian Mountains
In the 1970s, we conducted several low-level flights around the southeastern United States, primarily through the Carolinas and the Appalachian Mountains. After landing, our crew chief praised us for having only two bullet holes in the wing. Some ‘moonshiners’ in the hills didn’t like government planes and often took potshots at us. Fortunately, their aim was impaired by their drinking, so they never hit anything vital.
